Just after the Pope and President Obama’s visit to Cuba and the historic free concert given by The
Rolling Stones, Lagerfeld has showed yesterday night his 2017 Resort collection
for Chanel at the tree-lined Paseo del Prado, flanked by sun-faded pastel
mansions, a popular promenade near the Havana’s city’s waterfront. Havana makes
a gorgeous setting for a fashion show: motorcade of the jellybean-coloured vintage
cars, as iconic of the city as the mojito, daiquiri and cuba libre cocktails,
carried 600 guests to the show, which marks the first major (like many things,
from March on, have been the first major) luxury fashion presence since Christian Dior opened a space in the city’s El Encantodepartment store just before Fidel Castro came into power in the late ’50s.
And, like I´ve said here, the rumors about KL leaving Chanel have increased.
Many changes are quickly taking place in Cuba. The first US cruise to
Cuba since the revolution docked on May 2, and Starwood recently became the
first US company in decades to begin operating hotels in Cuba. High-end
travelers are anxious to visit, too: A survey of luxury travel agents picked
Cuba as the top destination for luxury travel in 2016.
But I also
believe that Cuba, as I knew it (I´ve been there twice and love, love it) is
going to vanish…
By the way, do you remember Gisele Bündchen´s "last" runway show, on 15th April 2015, because, as she told to Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper, "I don't see how to continue
and stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself. "Automatically
my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my
body, it's a privilege to be able to stop." And here she is, at Chanel´s Runway. Is she back?
